The WHWFC committee are a group of 8 enthusiastic local riders and runners who were keen to align the popularity of biking and running with the opportunity presented by the White Hill wind farm site. Last year our inaugural event attracted 540 competitors and the success of the event has prompted us to plan this as an annual event.
Such Biking and running events have grown enormously in popularity in recent years and our event is ideally positioned between the Gore Moonshine and the Motatapu Mountain events.
The funds raised from the previous 2 years were donated to the Mossburn Community Pool in order for them to upgrade the solar heating, The Mossburn Preschool to cover the costs of produce a fund-raising cookbook and to The Northern Southland Medical Trust for the upgrade of the car park.
Due to popular demand we have included a 5km walk which will take those who enter right up to a wind turbine. This is a fun walk and not intended to be competitive.
This is an off-road event over private land and a unique opportunity to experience the incredible vistas of the Takitimu and Eyre mountains, open to the public for one day only.
As with biking or running in any off road areas there are numerous unmarked hazards. Please note that you will not be able to ride/run the course prior to the event.
The course is circular so the start and finish points are in the same area – you won’t need to worry about transport.
This year, 2011, will be our third event. The proceeds will be going to the Northern Southland Music and movement pre-school group and the Mossburn Pre-school.
